Would have taken / Would not have taken

Would have taken / Would not have taken (1974) is a small series utilizing appropriated photographs from daily newspapers. A typewritten tag on each image states: “Given the same location and time, I could have taken this photograph.” And depending on aspects of the image, the text continues “I would have” or “I would not have.” The work highlights the multiplicity of considerations that constitute “quality,” particularly when approached from a journalistic context as opposed to an “aesthetic” one.
